What Is Dried Fruit
Dried fruit is fruit that has had almost all of the water content removed through drying methods.
The fruit shrinks during this process, leaving a small, energy-dense dried fruit.
Raisins are the most common type, followed by dates, prunes, figs and apricots.
Other varieties of dried fruit are also available, sometimes in candied form . These include mangoes, pineapples, cranberries, bananas and apples.
Dried fruit can be preserved for much longer than fresh fruit and can be a handy snack, particularly on long trips where refrigeration is not available.
Dried fruit has had most of the water content removed. The most common varieties are raisins, dates, prunes, figs and apricots.
Is Propel Water Better Than Soda
Propel water is generally considered better than soda, as Propel is free of sugar, calories, and artificial colors. However, Propel still has two artificial sweetenerssucralose and acesulfame potassiumwhich make it controversial from a health perspective.
The artificial sweeteners in Propel are commonly used in diet sodas, as well. Compared to diet sodas, Propel still might be a little better because it doesnt have artificial colors.
Neither Propel nor soda are really healthy, natural drinks. If youre looking for a healthy alternative to soda, you should try seltzer water. Its just bubbly water with a subtle natural flavorno sugar or other sweeteners.
The Dark Side Of Vitaminwater
Now here’s something you wouldn’t expect. Coca-Cola is being sued by a non-profit public interest group, on the grounds that the company’s vitaminwater products make unwarranted health claims. No surprise there. But how do you think the company is defending itself?
In a staggering feat of twisted logic, lawyers for Coca-Cola are defending the lawsuit by asserting that “no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking vitaminwater was a healthy beverage.”
Does this mean that you’d have to be an unreasonable person to think that a product named “vitaminwater,” a product that has been heavily and aggressively marketed as a healthy beverage, actually had health benefits?
Or does it mean that it’s okay for a corporation to lie about its products, as long as they can then turn around and claim that no one actually believes their lies?
In fact, the product is basically sugar-water, to which about a penny’s worth of synthetic vitamins have been added. And the amount of sugar is not trivial. A bottle of vitaminwater contains 33 grams of sugar, making it more akin to a soft drink than to a healthy beverage.
Is any harm being done by this marketing ploy? After all, some might say consumers are at least getting some vitamins, and there isn’t as much sugar in vitaminwater as there is in regular Coke.
Why do we allow companies like Coca-Cola to tell us that drinking a bottle of sugar water with a few added water-soluble vitamins is a legitimate way to meet our nutritional needs?

So Is Vitaminwater Hype Or Staple
Now that weve examined all of the factors at play in a bottle of Vitaminwater, lets answer the big question is vitamin-infused water good for you?
While the idea of water with added vitamins and minerals sounds like a good one, most brands end up adding lots of extra sugars. Its sugar content already meets your required daily sugar intake. Thats how much sugar is in one drink.
Some brands of vitamin-infused water may do more harm than good. Its safe to say that Vitaminwater is nothing more than hype. But there are also healthier alternatives if you want to try vitamin-infused water drinks.
So, next time you reach for a bottle of Vitaminwater at the supermarket, consider drinking dull, filtered water along with a piece of fruit. Or, try infusing your daily jug of water with some healthy, fresh ingredients for a natural vitamin enhancement with no added sugars. This way, youll get the beneficial nutrients and hydration that you need without the added sugar.
Servings Per Container 25
Potassium Not a significant source
Total Carbohydrate 3g 1%
Sugar < 1g
Okay, but what does all this mean? Here is a brief summary about some of the key ingredients:
Reverse Osmosis Water Thats filtered tap water. Nope, youre not getting some natural mineral water from a secret spring in an exotic-sounding island/mountain locale. On the other hand, osmosis does sound quite interesting, no?
Crystalline Fructose a processed sweetener. It is derived from corn, just like High Fructose Corn Syrup, but is enriched with fructose. The fructose is crystallized, dried, and milled, then used as a sweetener in beverages. It doesnt have the negative reputation that high fructose corn syrup does and less of it is required to create a sweet taste.
Erythritol a natural sugar alcohol occurring naturally in fruits. However, it is much cheaper to produce it industrially from glucose by fermentation with a yeast with a scary name of Moniliella pollinis. Erythritol is only 60% as sweet as regular sugar. It is however almost calorie-free, with only 0.2 calories per gram vs. 4 calories for sugar . An advantage Erythritol has over other sugar alcohols is that it is absorbed by the body and therefore does not cause cramps or bloating. It also has a cooling effect on the mouth.
Erythritol has 0 calories per gram for food labeling purposes in the United States, Europe and Japan. This 0 calorie value is based on Erythritols unique absorption and elimination process.
Is Vitaminwater Zero A Healthier Option Than The Sugar
- Molly Kimball
Joggers, walkers and cyclists make their way around City Park Lake which shows signs of the floating scum that always seems to show up toward the end of the long hot summer Wednesday August 28, 2019, in Baton Rouge, La.
I’ve never been a fan of Glacéaus VitaminWater, which is loaded with more than 30 grams of sugar and 125 calories per bottle. But a new no-calorie version of the product passes nutritional muster as a product that quenches your thirst without blowing your diet.
VitaminWater Zero, which hit store shelves just last week, is a calorie-free version of the original line of drinks that retail for $1.49 for a 20-ounce bottle. It’s available in seven flavors with names that sound more like a health spa menu of services than a bottled beverage.
VitaminWater Zero is calorie-free, making it a better option than the original line for those watching their waistlines.
Calories And Sugar In Vitaminwater
Each bottle of Vitaminwater provides between 20 and 120 calories, according to the Vitaminwater nutrition labels available on the company’s website. The calories come entirely from carbohydrates, mostly added sugars, as no flavor of Vitaminwater contains fat or protein.
The amount of sugar in each 20-ounce bottle of Glaceau Vitaminwater ranges from 4 to 32 grams, depending on the flavor. The flavors XXX Acai-Blueberry-Pomegranate and Revive Fruit Punch have the most sugar, at 32 grams per bottle, while Energy Tropical Citrus, Power-C Dragonfruit, Refresh Tropical Mango, Breeze-E Strawberry Watermelon and Essential Orange-Orange all have 27 grams of sugar per bottle. Focus Kiwi-Strawberry contains 26 grams of sugar.
Not all flavors are high in carbs and sugar. The flavors with the least amount of carbs just 4 grams are Ice Cool Blueberry-Lavender and Fire Spicy Watermelon-Lime. These are sugar-free.
Your body doesn’t need added sugars as part of its daily nutrients. The term “added sugars” refers to any sugar that’s added during the processing of an item, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Energy and sports drinks are one of the top sources of added sugars in the U.S. diet. The American Heart Association recommends that you limit the amount of added sugar to 6 teaspoons per day if you’re a woman, or 9 teaspoons per day if you’re a man.

Benefits Of Vitamin Water Zero
It is considered a healthy drink due to added minerals and enough vitamin content, but we know that excess of everything is bad. So, even if youre consuming loads of vitamin water, it will result in damages. People usually ask how vitamin water zero is calorie-free, despite having some sugar content in it. Thats because it has notably low-calorie, plant-based sweeteners known as erythritol and stevia. Stevia is naturally grown with zero carbs and calories.
On the other side, erythritol is a sugar alcohol, providing only about 0.2 calories per 1 gram of carbohydrate. It is far lesser than the calories that should be counted. Both these artificial sweeteners help a body stay away from chronic heart diseases. As this drink is prepared with enhanced flavors and zero calories, you can switch to drinking more of it rather than plain water. Furthermore, vitamin water zero helps athletes and gym lovers fulfill their electrolyte requirements.

Does Propel Have Sugar Or Carbs
Propel does not contain sugar or carbs. The nutrition label for Propel Electrolyte Water shows 0 grams of total carbohydrates and 0 grams of total sugars. This makes Propel suitable for keto and other low-carb diets.
Instead of sugar or corn syrup, Propel is sweetened with two artificial sweeteners, sucralose and acesulfame potassium.
Does Propel Raise Blood Sugar
I didnt find any research directly on whether Propel water raises blood sugar. However, Propel has sucralose, which has been shown to affect insulin resistance.
Sucralose is not absorbed in the small intestine like normal sugar, so it ends up in the large intestine. Apparently, it alters your gut bacteria there, affecting your tolerance to carbohydrates.
So theoretically, drinking a lot of Propel water mayworsen your blood sugar control. But this hasnt been tested directly, to my knowledge.
There are also suspicions that artificial sweeteners may cause an insulin response through another mechanism. That is, the sweet taste of artificial sweeteners may trigger an insulin response even without real sugar in your bloodstream.
So, proceed with caution. If blood-sugar control is crucial for you, Id recommend using a glucometer like this one to actually test whether Propel has any affect for you.

How To Have Watermelon When Youre Diabetic: Dos And Donts
So, we now know that diabetics can and should consume fruits like watermelon. Here are some dos and donts to help you do it right.
- Do have small consistent amounts through the day rather than one large portion of carbs and sugar at one go.
- Do ensure it is spaced a few hours after your last carb intake. This will minimize spikes in blood glucose levels.
- Dont give up on fruit. You can have up to two servings of fruit per day. One of these could be watermelon.
- Do count your carbs and plan your meals. Watermelon can be a nutritious fruit choice for diabetics, as long as you take the carbohydrates it contains into consideration when planning meals.
- Dont stick to watermelon alone. Instead, also consider grapefruit which has a GI of 25 and GL of 3 or pears which have a GI of 38 and GL of 4.12
Youre Not Getting Any Extra Nutrients
The nutrients on the Vitaminwater label may make it appear you will get more benefit from this than from plain water.
Remember, though, your bodys only going to absorb a certain number of vitamins and nutrients each day.
You will likely obtain some of the nutrients in Vitaminwater from other sources. These include whole food and fresh fruits and vegetables.
The body then flushes out the excess nutrients it doesnt need. In other words, you gain nothing by consuming Vitaminwater.

Is It Okay To Drink Propel Every Day
This is really a personal question, based on your risk tolerance and how your body reacts to artificial sweeteners.
Personally, I would not drink Propel water every day. I would be concerned about getting too much of the artificial sweeteners, and how that might affect my insulin sensitivity .
That said, some people may be comfortable with the risks of drinking sucralose and acesulfame potassium regularly. Review the evidence and decide for yourself.
For me, I would only drink Propel as an occasional treat.

But unfortunately, most electrolyte drinks have artificial sweeteners or other questionable ingredients, toonot just electrolytesso they may be best in moderation.

How Vitaminwater Works
The Coca-Cola Company has purchased Glaceau, the makers of Vitaminwater, for $4.1 billion.
Water and vitamins are two of the most essential substances available to us. They keep us alive and maintain our health by performing important functions within our bodies. Without them, deficiencies arise and our bodies react negatively. So, what if these two substances joined forces to give us a singularly awesome elixir of pure life?
This is exactly what Glacéau has tried to make. The company formed in 1996 to become, according to their Web site, a “pioneer of the enhanced water category.” They have developed a massive line of bottled drinks called “Vitaminwater” that combine distilled water with vitamins, herbs and flavors.
The company’s timing has been perfect. As scientists better understand the biological and chemical complexities of our bodies, the general public is becoming increasingly health conscious. Along with exercise habits and our genes, what we eat and drink largely determines the quality of our health. People are willing to try anything that advertises healthy living, and Americans spend $750 million a year on energy drinks alone.
What Is Vitamin Water
According to Glaceau, the maker of Vitamin Water, Vitamin Water is âa fresh new approach to bottled waterâ and âthe pioneer of the enhanced water category.â That sounds fantastic for advertising purposes, but what does it actually mean? Glaceau also says that Vitamin Water is for âresponsible hydrationâ and is ânutrient-packed, great-tasting water with added electrolytes.â It sounds complicated, but letâs break it down. Electrolyte is a fancy word for salt or sugar, and nutrients can be any sort of vitamins or minerals. Basically, Vitamin Water is water with sugar, sodium, vitamins, minerals, and flavoring added.
Glaceau produces three types of Vitamin Water: regular Vitamin Water, Vitamin Water 10, and Vitamin Water Zero. Below, weâll take a look at each of these varieties.
