Simplify mornings with a quick and easy homemade maple brown sugar oatmeal. Dairy free Instant Pot oatmeal recipe using rolled oats and real maple syrup.
I remember as a kid when the boxes of instant oatmeal came out on store shelves. They were pretty much an instant hit with most every kid, especially with flavors like peaches and cream and maple brown sugar oatmeal.
Both my mom and my grandma were HUGE fans of the maple and brown sugar oatmeal. We’d make it to go with our breakfast and even for the occasional snack.
Now with the help of my Instant Pot, I like to make it homemade, giving me the option to add less sugar and maybe make it a bit more healthy than those instant packs probably are. My family prefer steel cut or old fashioned oats, so I like to use old fashioned rolled oats.
If you’ve never made Instant Pot oatmeal, it’s really easy to make. And I’ve got a few tips for you below, especially to help prevent scorching and get that perfectly cooked texture to your oatmeal.

Brown Sugar And Oatmeal Soap
Now THAT is a lot of soap!Twelve pounds, to be exact, cut into 72 bars.
The sales conference for fall books is coming up, and my publisher asked if I would send swag for the marketing team to hand out to promote my book. Im excited that theyre excited about my book, so I agreed to send along a box of homemade soap. They wanted something homemade that would represent something I did in the book. The sales reps at the conference would probably rather get pies, but that wont ship well, so soap it is.
The recipe I chose is a simple one, and likely to appeal to most people. This soap smells deliciousand is so pretty with swirls of brown sugar.
If youve never made soap, you can! Check out my Hot Process Soap in a Crock Pot tutorial. You can do it!
Heres the recipe.
Crisco 9.6 ounces or 272.155 gramsolive oil 9.6 ounces or 272.155 gramslard 6.4 ounces or 181.437 gramscoconut oil 6.4 ounces or 181.437 gramsdistilled water 12.16 ounces or 344.73 gramslye 4.463 ounces or 126.524 grams1/3 cup ground oatmeal1 ounce fragrance oil1/2 cup brown sugar
This yields a 2 pound batch of soap. I usually add the fragrance oil as the very last thing, but because the brown sugar wont be completely incorporatedjust gently turned through the mixture to leave swirls, add the brown sugar last.Pretty! I hope they like it!
How To Make A Starbucks Shaken Espresso
Like a cocktail – you’ll shake the espresso vigorously with ice, then layer it over more ice with a flavored syrup , and top with full fat oat milk.
The “full fat” part of the “full fat oatmilk” is important! It’s what gives the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso from Starbucks that fantastic Iced Oatmeal Cookie latte flavor. If you can’t find full fat, you can go with the Regular oatmilk, but I do not recommend the light/low fat.

How To Make Oatmeal
Note: You can use the steel cut oats or regular oats to make brown sugar oatmeal, but I prefer the steel cut because I like the chewy texture better. It’s just a personal preference.
- Bring water and steel cut oats to a boil.
- Stir in milk or half-and-half, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cook 45 minutes.
You can use regular oats in this recipe, which reduces the cooking time down to 5-10 minutes. I prefer using the steel cut oats if freezing but that’s just personal preference. Either works just fine!

What’s Brown Sugar Oatmeal
We all know regular cooked oatmeal porridge right?
Well, Quaker oats have a delicious brown sugar oatmeal version in their product range.
Sure, we could just go with that but it costs way more than the plain instant oatmeals!
So, I came up with my own homemade version, which by the way tastes better because after all, you get to adjust it the way you like it.
I find the ready made brown sugar oatmeals from quaker way too sweet.
In that sense, the homemade brown sugar oatmeal is healthier!
It’s not as if it was complicated to prepare your own flavored brown sugar oatmeal dish.
There is no extra work involved.
That’s why I don’t get why I should buy the ready-made version.
In 5 min you can prepare a wholesome batch of hot sweet brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal with this recipe.
That’s the same time it takes you to cook up the ready-made quaker version which costs even more.

My kids are weirdos and refuse to eat any kind of oatmeal that hasnt come from a packet. I cant figure out why because to my grown up taste buds the stovetop oatmeal with whatever happy things I want to add to it is wayyyyy better. Apple Cinnamon Stovetop Oatmeal? Ill take that over a packet any day of the week.
But I do love those little maple and brown sugar packets. I really do.
My problem with the packets is not whats IN them, but what happens TO them specifically how fast they disappear.
Its like lightning speed. $4.50 for a box and before I can boil water there are no packets left for me.
Whoever created those serving sizes has obviously never tried to feed growing teenage boys.
I. Love. It.

This actually can happen if you have a larger sized Instant Pot, and Im not sure why. But fears aside, even if you get the notice that the oatmeal has been burnt, if you followed the recipe exactly youll be fine. The bottom of the oatmeal will be a nice golden color, not burnt.
To completely avoid getting a burn notice, use the pot in pot method. Mix all of the instant pot oatmeal ingredients in a smaller, ovenproof dish that fits inside of your instant pot.

To make 1/2 cup of ground oatmeal for scrubs, use a blender, small food processor or coffee grinder. Grind 3/4 to 1 cup of oatmeal until it has the consistency of flour.

What Is The Difference Between Old Fashioned Oatmeal And Quick Cooking Oats
All oats begin as groats, or kernels of grain that are later processed into different varieties. Meaning that they each provide the same health benefits. What makes each oat variety different is the way they are processed.
Old Fashioned Oatmeal This version of oatmeal is flat and flaky in appearance and often referred to as rolled oats. They typically take five minutes to cook and tend to soak up more water than quick cooking oats. Old fashioned is the variety I reach for when making granola, cookies, or muffins.
Quick Cooking Oats Quick cooking oatmeal are rolled oats that have been coarsely chopped. By breaking them down into smaller pieces, you have a quicker cooking oatmeal with a slightly finer texture.

Maple And Brown Sugar Oatmeal

Start your mornings off with Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal! Packed with whole grains and a warm maple and brown sugar flavor that you cant resist!
This recipe is inspired by the Quaker Instant Oatmeal flavored packets! My favorite flavor is the Maple and Brown Sugar flavor and this homemade oatmeal recipe tastes just like it. This oatmeal recipe doesnt have any highly processed ingredients and you most likely already have the ingredients in your pantry now.
The instant oatmeal packets are loaded with sugar so you can control the amount of sugar that goes into your oatmeal! You can customize your own flavors of this oatmeal depending on your cravings.
This hearty Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmealstarts with wholesome oats. I use old-fashioned oats however, you can also use quick-oats for an even quicker breakfast! Once the oats are fully cooked they get coated in maple syrup and brown sugar- perfection. This oatmeal can be ready in less than 10 minutesso you can even make this on busy mornings.
Cozy Brown Sugar Oatmeal
Given how often we eat oats for breakfast, this cozy, homemade brown sugar oatmeal recipe was certainly due for an update.
Its delicious and nearly foolproof, and while I mix up the toppings throughout the year, depending on the fruits and berries in season, I particularly love this brown sugar oatmeal in the Fall, when apples and pears are in season.
Thick and creamy, brown sugar sweetened, vanilla-scented oats topped with luscious, caramelized maple-cinnamon apples makes for an indulgent and tasty way to wake up on a chilly morning.
When I first published this recipe a few years ago, we were deep into a North Carolina winter, with temps regularly in the 20s. Wed just adopted our puppy, Mack, and taking him outside for any amount of time was an unimaginably cold experience for this Southern California native.
I was craving hearty, comforting breakfasts like nobodys business, and this oatmeal was my perfect remedy.
Even though we have milder weather here in Washington, as soon as the leaves even hint at beginning to turn, I still love starting the day out with warm-you-up-from-the-inside goodness.
And this creamy, homemade brown sugar oatmeal still hits the spot, especially with a big scoop of sweet cinnamon apples on top.
