Making Emulsified Sugar Body Scrub – Crazy Love Bath and Body

Exfoliation with a body scrub, or with other types of products like a brush or loofah, can help boost the health and appearance of your skin in several ways.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, exfoliation can leave your skin looking brighter because it removes the top layer of dead skin cells. It can also stimulate the production of collagen, which may help your skin stay firm and radiant.

Another benefit of exfoliation is that it can improve the efficacy of topical treatments. If you exfoliate your skin before applying a cream, for example, the cream will be able to penetrate more deeply instead of sitting on the surface.

In addition, massaging your skin with a body scrub can also be a wonderful way to relax and feel calmer, especially if youre tired or stressed.

Here are the basic steps to making sugar scrubs to sell:

Which Sugar Is Best For Body Scrub

Choosing the best sugar for your DIY sugar scrub is simple. There are three main types of sugar you can add to your homemade scrub:

  • If you have dry or flaky skin, then you will want to use coarse sugar. You can choose between brown sugar and raw sugar.
  • The large grains of coarse sugar exfoliate your dry skin while simultaneously infusing it with moisture from the air around you.

Brown sugar is the least abrasive making it a good choice for those with sensitive skin, and a good choice when making a face scrub. Since it is the gentlest, it can be used up to 4 times a week.

    2. Fine Sugar for Radiant Skin

Fine sugar is ideal when you want to restore your skins healthy glow.

    • helps to turn over the cells in your skin
    • doesnt break away dry skin
    • infuses natural moisture

3, One of the best fine sugars for your DIY scrub is pure white sugarsimilar to what you use for baking.

Turbinado sugar is naturally the coarsest due to its large granules and makes for a great body scrub. It is the least processed of the three and holds the most essential minerals. Body scrubs made with raw sugar can be used up to 2 times a week.

Best Essential Oils For Sugar Scrubs

Essential oils add a lovely scent to your homemade sugar scrubs. Some oils also offer skin support as well as healing properties.

A few drops are all you need. Essential oils are highly concentrated and extremely potent. Adding too much can cause mild to severe skin irritation.

These are the best essential oils for sugar scrub recipes:

Lavender Gentle, calming, and nurturing, lavender is one of the best essential oils for the skin. It has antifungal and antiseptic properties, helps balance moisture levels, and reduces redness and inflammation. Use lavender in sugar scrubs for sensitive skin.

Rose The benefits of rose essential oil for the skin are well known. When used in a skin scrub, rose oil helps refine the tone and texture of the skin and slow down skin aging.

Geranium Geranium essential oil regulates oil production and slows premature aging and wrinkles, leaving your skin with a healthy glow. Use geranium in anti-aging sugar scrubs.

Tea Tree A natural astringent, tea tree is known for its anti-acne properties. Use this for acne-prone skin. Applying a sugar scrub with tea tree essential oil is very effective for deterring acne formation. However, you must be careful not to use it on inflamed acne as that can irritate it even more.

Chamomile Chamomile essential oil has soothing, calming, and anti-inflammatory properties, all of which offer overall skin support. Chamomile makes a great addition to sugar scrubs for any type of skin, even sensitive skin.

Can I Use Essential Oils In Sugar Scrub

How to Make DIY Sugar Scrub | Exfoliating Body Scrub

Speaking of scents Yes. You can definitely use essential oils in scrub.

Ive used a few different brands of essential oils and I REALLY love Revive oils the best. Theyre high quality and more affordable than MLM-based brands.

Just be aware of the potency of certain essential oils. In my Gingerbread Sugar Scrub I used ground spices instead of ginger, cinnamon, and clove oils because the cinnamon and clove oils can irritate the skin.

If you dont want to use essential oils, you can use citrus zest, extracts, herbs, or flavorings.

Much of whats in your pantry is fair game! I even used molasses in that gingerbread scrub.

How This Recipe Is Different From My Previous Ones

    1. This recipe calls for double sugar. This makes the finished body scrub thicker . Each scoop has double the exfoliating power, yet still feels very creamy. You only need a little bit of the product to create a creamy lather.

Using more sugar also means that you can make more jars for less $$$.

    2. This whipped soap sugar scrub recipe includes some oil for a moisturized skin feel.

    3. It has a layer of a golden sugar scrub in the middle. I wanted to show you a cute and easy option to change the look of your whipped soap scrub and give it a more luxurious look. I hope you like it!

Massage Sugar Scrub In Your Hands

The feel of the scrub is so relaxing! I like to start with wet hands and then add a dollop of the sugar scrub to my palm and then rub it all over just like soap, up to my wrists.

You can massage this into your skin, lightly or with as much pressure as you feel comfortable with. If you have sensitive skin, Id go light. If youre lucky enough to have a willing partner, you can have someone else massage the scrub into your hands, then rinse with warm warm. Its so relaxing!

If you work with your hands, are a pianist, or have arthritis, I imagine youd especially love this treatment.

    Formulating Emulsified Sugar Scrubs

Easy sugar scrub recipes work great. However, they also consist of basically oil and sugar. These types of homemade body scrubs can be extra slippery. They also can be harder to rinse off. If you prefer a moisturizing sugar scrub that rinses off more easily and is less of a slip hazard, then I recommend using an emulsifier to make your homemade body scrubs for glowing skin.

    Sugar Face Scrub Faqs

Is there an alternative to bentonite clay I can use?

Anycosmetic clay will work. Or you can leave it out entirely.

My sugar scrub came out dry and crumbly. What gives?

Just add more oil to loosen things up. When youre ready to use your sugar scrub, place a small scoopful in the palm of your hand, and add a bit of water to create a more spreadable consistency. Just make sure not to get any water in the leftover scrub, or it will spoil within a matter of days.

    Are DIY face scrubs safe?

Yes, definitely! Just make sure to stick with gentle exfoliants that are super-fine in texture, such as caster sugar and bentonite clay. And dont scrub too hard, or you might create micro-tears in the skin, which can make any inflamed areas worse.

I have pretty sensitive skin what can I use in place of sugar?

I recommend using colloidal oats in place of sugar. Not only will they actually soothe the skin, but colloidal oats dont have any sharp edges that might cause further irritation. You can make your own by placing 1/4 cup ofold-fashioned oats in a coffee grinder and grinding until you get a super-fine powder. Use your oatmeal scrub like you would a traditional sugar scrub.
