How To Wax Upper Lip At Home With Homemade Brown Sugar Wax
Most of the time, the peach-fuzz hair on a woman’s upper lip is only obvious to the woman herself. Still, many women worry about facial hair, and it’s easy enough to solve the problem at home with a homemade sugar wax. Sugar wax isn’t technically wax — it’s made with sugar instead of actual wax or honey — but it works much the same way regular wax does. Waxing, whether you use the traditional method or the sugar wax method, rips the hair out of your skin, which can be painful. Doing it yourself lets you manage your pain while you get the results you want.
Combine 1 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons water and 2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice in a small saucepan, and put it over medium heat. Stir constantly — for about eight minutes — until the mixture takes on a thick, honey-like consistency.
Remove the mixture from the heat, transfer it to a heat-safe container and let it cool for a few minutes. Meanwhile, wash your face thoroughly with your regular cleanser, removing any traces of makeup from your skin. Pat your face dry with a clean towel or washcloth.
Brush a light dusting of face powder on your upper lip to protect your skin from the wax.
Test the temperature of the sugar mixture on the inside of your wrist. When it’s warm but not uncomfortably hot on your skin, the sugar wax is ready to use.
Rub an ice cube over your upper lip area to soothe inflammation and reduce redness and pain.

Can You Use Wax Without Strips
This is an important point. You dont want to apply wax on your skin as you do with traditional waxing. You have to do exactly the opposite, meaning no strips wax. Its a bit messy job where you scoop out the wax, make it into a ball and then apply it in the opposite direction of your hair growth.
This is why I usually sit on an old towel while waxing. While I use a rubber spatula to apply the wax, you can always use your hands.
How To Use Your Homemade Sugar Wax
Just like with regular wax, preparing for sugar wax is similar. First, clean the area completely. Then, lightly sprinkle some powder over the desired area. Next, apply the wax to the area while its still warm. Once the wax is dry, simply peel it off in the same direction as hair growth using a quick motion. That is all you need. No wax strips, no cloth, just the wax. How amazing is that?

While irritation is less likely to occur, it is still possible, especially to those with sensitive skin.
Irritation could take the form of itchiness or red skin but is usually only temporary.
If this does occur, refrain from scratching the skin and speak with a healthcare professional to find a cream that will soothe the skin.
Avoid sugaring on any sunburned areas, and if you do have an existing skin condition, again, speak with a healthcare professional to see if sugar wax is safe for you to use.

How To Apply It
Step 1. Take out the required amount of your homemade wax in a pan and reheat it for 10 to 20 seconds. But you dont have to reheat it if it is still warm from the cooking. Your homemade wax should be just warm enough to make it stick and lets it spread readily.
Step 2. Use a spatula or a wooden popsicle to spread the wax on the desired area of skin. Spread it in the direction of your hair growth.
Step 3. Place a cloth strip, preferably cotton, over the area where you have just applied wax. Rub it in the direction of your hair growth for a few seconds to make it stick to your skin.
Step 4. Grab the end of the cloth strip and pull it off in the direction opposite to your hair growth in a swift motion.
Step 5. Repeat for other areas until you have removed all unwanted hair.

Important Notes On Heating Your Sugar
Realistically, you’re going to have to do this a couple times to find what works best for you. I recommend starting with the soft ball stage because you can always heat more, but not less. This will probably be a good temperature for you if you live in a colder region. If you live somewhere hot and humid, you may find that you need to heat your mixture to the firm ball or hard ball stage so that it doesn’t get melty and sticky as you work. If you’re heating to a firmer stage, it’s highly recommended to knead before storing, or you’ll need to reheat your mixture to get it out of the jar. Please keep in mind that the warmer your sugar is, the softer it will be. So if you’re working with it right away when it’s still warm, and it’s too loose, you can either heat it to a firmer state, or wait for it to cool more.

How To Make Homemade Sugar Wax
Before we jump on how to make sugar wax at home, it would be better if we share with you some important tips that you need to put some attention to.
Here are those tips:
1. You can use both brown sugar or white sugar on making the sugar wax. But, we are strongly recommended for you use white sugar to make it lighter in color when its caramelized in the cooking process.
2. You need to avoid overheating the mixture, just cook it in a simmer. It would be good if you use an electric stove and set it to 4 at the beginning and then lower it to 2.
3. You need to remove the wax immediately while it starts to bubble to avoid overcook it and it will get burn if still on the heat.
4. If you are planning to use it right away, please keep checking on its temperature. Because it can burn your skin.
5. Lastly, if you are not planning to use it right away, then keep it covered in the fridge. It will get harden when you store it, so put it in the microwave for some seconds to melt it and cool it down before applying it.

Follow Up With A Moisturizer
To prevent post-waxing inflammation, you can use any natural moisturizer, such as coconut oil or aloe vera gel, body lotion, or baby oil after rinsing your skin. Avoid using soap, perfume, makeup, or any topical products with harsh elements for the next 24-48 hours to prevent any adverse reactions, such as redness or skin irritation. Also, avoid saunas to keep the sweat off your skin.
Word Of Caution: Sugar wax is great for removing hair from the back, legs, and chest. Test it on a small area if you plan to apply it to your underarms, bikini area, or upper lip.
Keep the following tips in mind after performing sugaring.
Different Ways To Make Sugar Wax At Home
Sugar wax can be made in the microwave or on the stove. I am discussing more of making the sugar wax in this post in the microwave because I think the microwave version is more comfortable, some people may disagree.
To make the sugar wax, whether in the microwave or on the stove, is virtually the same. The stove, in my opinion, is more difficult because I believe its easier and faster for it to burn and mess up the consistency. As for the microwave, because youre heating it for 15 to 30 seconds at a time makes it much easier to watch.
You can try both methods at home and let me know what you think. The same measurements you use in the microwave you can use on the stove.

The ingredients are typically heated and blended together. Then its cooled until an appropriate temperature to apply to your skin without burning until warm but not hot.
The warm mixture is then applied to the area of skin and covered with a strip of cloth or paper. When the mixture has sat and cooled, the cloth or paper is quickly removed with the hairs stuck to it.
How Long Does Sugar Waxing Last

Sugar waxing can last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. Everyones hair growth rate varies. It also depends on how often and how much hair that person is comfortable with before waxing again. Overall it lasts much longer than shaving.
Even though sugar waxing has been said to be less painful than regular waxing because it only grips the hairs, it still can be painful. Also, everyones pain tolerances will differ.
Sugar waxing, in my opinion, is less painful, being that I have tried the usual waxing method, chocolate wax, and the hard wax. I do also have a high pain tolerance. To be hair-free for a few weeks, Ill take it!
