Two Good Yogurt Review | Low Carb Greek Yogurt!

Walk down the yogurt aisle at the grocery store, and there are more options than you can easily count. Behind the containers of plain, traditional yogurts and unflavored, creamy Greek yogurts are some less-than-healthy options were not big fans of.

Dont get us wrongwe love yogurt. Its full of probiotics and can even lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. But many of the store offerings are more of a dessert than healthy snack. Here, we checked out the nutrition on some top yogurt brands to find the most unhealthy picks, based on sugar contentand found healthy alternatives you should pick up instead.

Two Good Lowfat Greek Yogurt Strawberry Lower Sugar

Net carbs: 3 g

Review score: 4 stars

Overall, this is a pretty good low-carb yogurt. The texture is fairly creamy but I would like it to be a bit firmer. That could be a preference thing though. The taste was really good and I could clearly tell that it was strawberry yogurt.

Its sweetened with stevia and natural flavors but does not have any fruit pieces in it. That combination means that they have been able to keep the carb count amazingly low at only 3 grams per serving. Id say thats fairly unusual for a fruit-flavored yogurt.

It also has a very limited blood sugar impact. I did need a little bit of insulin to prevent a blood sugar increase, but I only needed ½ unit of rapid-acting insulin.

Since its Greek low-fat yogurt, the calories and fat are also low, while it packs 12 grams of protein, which makes it a good option for anyone wanting to limit their calorie intake.

Chobani Leans Into Demand For Healthier Foods With No

The dairy giant has expanded its portfolio during the past few years to include offerings that cater to hot trends in the food space such as probiotics and protein.

Chobani is rolling out a Greek yogurt without sugar as the food maker doubles down on healthier offerings in demand with consumers who are more closely watching what they eat and drink.

The company said Chobani Zero Sugar, shipping to retailers this month, is the first nationally distributed product in the U.S. yogurt aisle that has no trace of sugar. Each serving has 60 calories, uses only natural ingredients, is lactose-free and contains six live and active cultures including probiotics.

“This was a gap in our portfolio. It’s a segment we weren’t competing in directly,” Niel Sandfort, chief innovation officer at Chobani, said of the more than $1 billion diet and reduced sugar yogurt category. “We have very high hopes that it’s going to not just take share, not just premiumize and trade up the consumer, but bring in new consumers who may have walked away from the yogurt set because of sugar.”

Sandfort said Chobani’s no-sugar offering was a “very challenging product” to develop and was subjected to the most amount of testing in the company’s history for a new launch. Unlike other low-calorie, low-sugar options that use artificial ingredients and create an off-putting flavor, Sandfort said Chobani stuck to its mantra by using only natural ingredients.

Ratio Keto Friendly Vanilla

Pros: The only low carb yogurt brand with keto friendly written on the label, :ratio backs up their claim by offering a scanty 3.25 grams of carbs per 245 gram serving.

Cons: The relatively extensive ingredient list raises some serious questions: non-fat milk, pasteurized milk, milkfat, and avocado oil add up to a highly processed product. Avocado oil is likely a cost-cutting additionmilkfat is expensive. Avocado is a highly processed industrial oil, but at least its comparatively low in inflammatory PUFAs at only 10%.

The biggest red flag here is the fact that :ratio calls this stuff vanilla dairy snack, which means it doesnt legally meet the requirements of a true yogurt.

Siggi’s Icelandic Strained Nonfat Yogurt

Greek Yogurt * LOW calorie * LOW sugar * LOW carbs ...

Siggis is a skyr-style yogurt, which means its thick and high in protein. Skyr-style yogurt is often compared to Greek yogurt because the formulation process is similar. That said, skyr is less tangy, has a thicker texture, and a slightly higher protein content than most Greek yogurts, Gans says. This version is fairly low-carb, but Cording recommends getting the lactose-free version to go even lower.

Noosa Tart Cherry Yoghurt

The first thing to remember about this noosa yoghurt is that it is a larger serving size than most of the other yogurts here. That being said, noosa yoghurt is delicious because it’s made with full-fat milk and a lot of sugar. Yes, it does have a lot of calcium because of that, but it’s so high in calories and carbs you’re better off not eating this very often.

Carbs And Sugars In Yogurt

You can easily tell how many carbs or sugars are in a store-bought yogurt by reading the nutrition label. If you look for the listing of “total carbohydrate” under serving size, you’ll see how many grams of carbs are in one serving of the yogurt.

Beneath “total carbohydrate” you’ll see a listing for “dietary fiber” and “sugars.” Both counts are already included in the total carbohydrates, but the additional information allows you to see how much of the carbs in a product are due to fiber or sugar.

One issue is that the sugar labeling doesn’t specify whether the sugars are natural, such as lactose, the sugar that naturally occurs in milk, or added sugars that are used as sweeteners.

The FDA recommends that a maximum of 10 percent of daily calories should come from added sugars, but it’s hard to calculate how much added sugar you’re eating when there’s no differentiation between added sugar and naturally occurring sugar.

Avoid Granola Dried Fruit Candies And Other Sugary Toppings

Unfortunately, most store-bought granola and dried fruit are sugar bombs, so its best to keep them off limits, unless youre treating your meal as dessert or the occasional treat. Instead, save your sweet cravings for indulging in actual desserta scoop of ice cream or a slice of cake. If you want to naturally sweeten your yogurt, top it with fresh or frozen fruit and add some chopped nuts and seeds for a hearty crunch.

Now that you know what to look for when shopping for low-sugar yogurts, here are some dietitian-approved products to consider adding to your grocery cart.

It’s marginally more expensive than the yogurts that sit around it on dairy shelves, but you’ll be getting your money’s worth when you pick up a carton of siggi’s. That’s because you’re paying for the fact that one serving of siggi’s yogurt uses four times the amount of milk as a regular cup of yogurt. It’s also because the milk is from grass-fed cows and the yogurt is never bulked up with gums or artificial additives. In the end you’re actually paying for yogurt â and not 20 grams of added sugar.

What Is Keto Yogurt

For a yogurt to be Keto yogurt it has to be acceptable as an all-around excellent addition to a ketogenic diet. This means that it doesnt need to be combined with other fats, or limited in its consumption in order to offer an optimal ketogenic macronutrient ratio.

It is important to note that not all low-carb yogurts are truly keto friendly, even if they advertise that they are.

Peak brand yogurt, with 17% milkfat, boasts 38.4 grams of fat per serving, and a moderate 12.8 grams of protein. It is the only yogurt weve found that is truly a keto yogurt.

With a 3:1 fat to protein ratio and only 6.4 grams of net carbs, it makes an excellent all-round addition to a well-formulated ketogenic diet.

When choosing a keto yogurt always look at the ingredient list. Brands with fewer ingredients offer a less processed product, one without industrial sweeteners and oils.

Remember, fresh yogurt is simply milk and natural cultures. Everything else is an attempt to reduce cost, stimulate your carb addiction, or increase shelf life.

What about Greek Yogurt?

Plain, full-fat Greek Yogurt can be occasionally enjoyed as a keto diet food.

With a nearly 1:2 fat to protein ratio, greek yogurt on its own provides an overabundance of protein.

To make Greek yogurt more keto-friendly add a few tablespoons of olive oil to boost the fat content, while still getting the benefits of its protein, B-vitamins, and probiotics.

Is Greek Yogurt Keto

The simple answer is yes, it can be. Its going to be a lot easier to fit Greek yogurt into your daily macronutrient goals when doing keto, Zellner says.

That’s because Greek yogurt tends to have about half the carbs and two times the amount of protein compared to regular yogurt, says Zellner, which means that making Greek yogurt servings fit into a keto dieters daily meals and macros is much easier. That said, theres one catch.

The information largely pertains to plain Greek yogurt. If you choose a flavored Greek yogurt, then the amount of sugar will be higher, Gans says. Basically, to make Greek yogurt fit with your keto needs, youll probably need to stick to the unflavored, plain variations, Gans explains.

What To Watch Out For

Calories and carbohydrates can also hide in extra toppings such as candies, nuts, and granola. These can contribute to blood sugar increases.

Youre better off choosing your favorite plain yogurt product and adding in the desired toppings yourself. That way, you can control the serving size and added sugars. Try a combination of fresh blueberries and sliced almonds. You can also add ground flax seed, chia seeds, and sliced strawberries.

As for artificial sweeteners, new research is leading experts to advise caution, especially for people with diabetes and insulin resistance. While they were originally marketed as a way to help people curb their sweet tooth and manage their weight, recent research suggests that artificial sweeteners may actually promote weight gain and changes in gut bacteria.

If you want to steer clear of artificial sweeteners, fresh fruit continues to be a healthier and more natural way of sweetening your yogurt. You can even mix in unsweetened applesauce as a quick way to naturally sweeten your yogurt.

Worst Yogurt For Sugar Content: Total Greek 0% Fat Free Yogurt With Honey

Calories: 106 kcal per 100gFat: NoneSugar: 18.8g highest sugar amount!Salt: 0.08gPrice: £1 for 170g from Tesco

Verdict: Despite containing only the tiniest trace of fat and saturated fat as its aptly named, Total Greek 0% Fat Free Yogurt with Honey has the highest amount of sugar in the seventeen yogurts we tested. However, Total is high in protein, so youll probably find itll satisfy you for longer than some other pots.

Dr Sana Khan says, The fat free aspect is quite misleading. Often when fat is removed, it is replaced by sugar as is in this case. Making something low in fat isnt necessarily healthier and in this case will be more of a reason to result in an insulin surge meaning you are likely to crave for another sugar rich food a few hours later.
