This recipe calls for only a few ingredients.

First up you need a powdered sweetener, like Swerve powdered, or my personal favorite, So Nourished monk fruit and erythritol blend. Personally So Nourished is my favorite brand currently. I love their products. I also love anything Sirken Mellis, their products are great too.

Sift your powdered sweetener before you use it! I have found that all of these sugar replacements need a bit of sifting to get out the clumps.

You can also make your own powdered sugar replacement from granular erythritol sweeteners by blending them in a high-speed blender like a Vitamix, or food processor.

You will also need powdered egg white, a bit of water, and your favorite food colourings. I like America colour gels simply because they have squeeze bottles and make far less mess!

For sprinkles that pipe smoothly and wont take on a gritty texture, a sweetener that dissolves completely is key. Besti Powdered Monk Fruit Allulose Blend is the only one I recommend because it dissolves easily and tastes just like sugar with 0g net carbs! If you dont have any on hand, regular Besti sweetener will work as well, since that dissolves almost as well.

Are Sprinkles Gluten Free

I don’t know about you, but when we went gluten free, I never gave a second thought to those colorful rainbow sprinkles. I assumed they were purely made from sugar and food coloring. I didn’t think that some brands are made on shared equipment with wheat!

With the holidays approaching, I wanted to investigate what brands of Christmas and other confetti sprinkles are safe. Colored sprinkles made on shared equipment may be okay for many who are gluten sensitive or gluten intolerant, but they are definitely not Celiac safe.

One of the biggest questions I get asked is Are Wilton brand sprinkles gluten free? Unfortunately, the largest sprinkle manufacturer uses shared equipment. Many look at their labels and assume that Wilton sprinkles are okay, but they aren’t if you are Celiac.

There are so many types of sprinkles. Sprinkles come in all shapes and sizes including round, flat and round, and in tiny stick shapes. You can also buy them in special shapes like stars, unicorns, balls, and holiday shapes!

Many are unique sprinkles shapes, while some are more common like funfetti!

This Recipe Is Easier Than You May Think It Is

You will need a few things to get you started though. You will need sugar free powdered sugar which you can make yourself or buy online. Also, you will need pasteurized egg whites and food coloring.

Here are some recipes that you can enjoy your sprinkles with.

How to make How to Make Sugar Free Sprinkles

  • In a large bowl, mix together the sugar and the pasteurized egg whites. A whisk or fork should suffice.
  • Add ΒΌ teaspoon of water to the bowl and mix. Continue doing this until a paste forms. This should not take more than 1- 1/1/2 teaspoons total.
  • We will be dividing the paste into alternative smaller bowls according to the colors of the sprinkles that you decide to make. For example, if you are making three separate colors of sprinkles, simply use three smaller bowls.

Continue with this.

  • Add the extract, divided, to each bowl. This gives you the opportunity to use a different extract for each color. For example, lemon extract for yellow sprinkles, orange extract for orange sprinkles, or mint extract for green sprinkles.
  • Also, add a few drops or so of food coloring to each of the bowls, mixing as needed.
  • When your color is blended and your paste resembles toothpaste in consistency you can then transfer each of the colored pastes to it’s own plastic baggie. Seal the baggie and then cut off a small corner .
  • Allow this to dry overnight. I suggest in a refrigerator.
  • Once dry, you can cut the sprinkles if not yet cut into shapes.

    • Dry. Let your healthy rainbow sprinkles sit at room temperature, uncovered, until they are completely dry.

Tips For Blending And Getting The Right Consistency

Sugar Free EXTRAS! Sugar Conscious Sweetness in 2020

When you make your sugar-free royal icing for this recipe you start with your egg whites, water, and lemon juice and blend until you get a thick mixture that holds its shape.

Separate the icing mixture into different bowls and add a tiny bit of water to each one and stir.

Were looking for a consistency that is thinner, but not too thin. We want the icing to hold its shape when piped, but not spread or flood. Depending on the humidity you may need to add a bit more water.

Do Sugar Free Sprinkles Even Exist

Sugar free sprinkles werent even close to a thing until just a little while ago. I sometimes would put a few teaspoons of regular sprinkles on some of my cakes and cookies, in order to please the masses.

It never even occurred to me to try a homemade version.

Then I saw one day on Instagram that you could actually purchase sugar-free sprinkles from a company aptly named The Sprinkle Company. I was in the middle of creating recipes for The Ultimate Guide to Keto Baking and I got pretty excited about the possibility of using a few sprinkles on my baked goods.

So I reached out and lo and behold, the person behind these genius sprinkles was my keto blogging friend Nicole from Oh My Keto. She started selling her adorable sprinkles on Etsy and I was so delighted to give them a try.

She has so many fun colors and combos, and Ive purchased them several times already. They arent cheap but they are definitely worth the splurge for some fun recipes.

And apparently now Good Dees is making sprinkles too! Ive got to check those out some time.

I have placed each color into a small glass container to use in the future. But I have also made 2 different mixed colors bottles. One Mixture is for Halloween, where you mix only the orange, purple and red colors. And then I have made another lighter version for Christmas, where I have added all the colors together plus white original shredded Coconut. I will still make a third mix for Easter, where I will probably only mix, light colors like yellow, turquoise, white and pink. And the 4th mixture for Valentines with only red, pink and white Sprinkles. O my. I can not wait for all the baking now.

To make it a bit more clear also for me in the future, here it goes:

    How to Make Funfetti Cookies

Any other holidays? O my. I am sure there are plenty. Like baby girl shower, baby boy shower, weddings, hen parties, all the birthday parties, special occasion parties, company events, where you can use the colors of your logos. Imagination is long.

I have already used them on our Christmas Tree Cupcakes and Eggnog Popsicles but more to come. And once you make them, they should stay for a long time.

You can even decorate our Chocolate Fudge Brownies with it to get that perfect Christmas Fudge you wanted.

You can also use them on our Sugar-Free Meringue Cookies, which will give them a great festivity feel. I have not tried it, but next time I bake, thats for sure what I will do.

Or try to sprinkle our Chocolate Keto Cupcakes to give it a bit of color.

My next challenge is to come up with something round looking but still low Carb. Then I will have everything for decoration.

I do hope you liked the idea, and here goes the full recipe.

How To Naturally Color Keto Sprinkles

Red, Pink and Purple, I have used it the same way as with our Rainbow Low Carb Chia Pudding, where I have boiled frozen berries until most of the liquid evaporates. Then add drop by drop into a bowl of white Coconut flakes. If you do like the color, but it is a bit thick, do not worry to add few drops of water, which will spread the color evenly. In the end, they are going to the oven for drying.

YellowandOrange, I have used Turmeric, as already mentioned. Just mix the powder with a little of water and add that into the coconut flakes. Adding a few drops results in a lovely bright yellow color, and a bit more colors it into a lovely Orange.

For a Green Color, You can use either Spirulina or Matcha Tea Powder, which comes a bit darker green. Or you can go for boiling Spinach leaves in a tiny amount of water to get a brighter green color.

For a Turquoise color, I really had to do some research and found a great idea from Whole New Mum, where she wrote a whole blog about it. What a perfect tip.
