Risks And Side Effects
Is sugar wax safe? Its safe for most skin types if you follow directions and are careful not to burn yourself.
Note that this recipe works best for softer hair, such as hair on the legs, back and chest.
Most experts caution against sugar waxing areas, such as the underarms or bikini line, where the hair is more coarse. Make sure to test a small area first if you choose to sugar wax in those areas.
The eyebrows may be a challenging area as well. The upper lip may be OK, but please test first.
Regardless, if you are uncertain, work with a professional to perform any waxing, particularly if youve had bad reactions in the past.
About Sugar Me Smooth
Just like you – we don’t like the inconvenience of unwanted hair. Until we started in 2008, hair removal at home only consisted of depilatory machines or wax-based strip systems and sugaring had limited and exclusive availability at the salon with a professional esthetician.
That’s why, when we became aware of a superior method of hair removal methods that left skin hair free super smooth & helped remove dead skin cells, we made it our goal to share it with the rest of the world. As a family-owned and operated business, we started producing body sugaring paste & other products from our garage in Nibley, Utah. Still located in Nibley, we now ship our brazilian wax & other products all over the world and are growing every day.
We believe that everyone should have the freedom that smooth, hair free skin brings. That’s why we have taken this once esthetician exclusive brazilian wax method and created an at-home system that is simple, cost-effective, and provides smoother hair-free skinâ¦guaranteed!

Were going to be talking about pubes in case youre a prude and get offended easily. So nows your chance to click away if discussing pubic hair is too much for you. Moving on, I made it very clear in my epilator brazilian post that I dont like hair unless its on my head. And I dont like too much there either. I especially dont care for pubic hair. Though I have to admit that Ive been letting it go untamed for longer than usual. Well not quite. Ive been taking it all off once per season and cutting it low with clippers in between. With the exception of prep for Summer funtivities. Sometimes Im just too busy lazy. But in reality I dont look forward to the removal process. It hurts like hell whether I go to a professional or do it myself. Even after years. Dont let anyone tell you it doesnt. Theyre lying.
Brazilian Sugaring Process
A wax heater is not necessary. You simply warm the sugar wax in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time until you reach the desired temperature. Dont let it get too hot as youll burn yourself. Plus the wax strips wont stick well. Yes youll need fabric strips to remove the hair. The sugar mixture works similar to conventional wax in this sense. I buy the Moom Hair Removal Kit which comes with 18 washable, reusable strips and 4 wooden applicators. The strips can also be cut down to size.

How To Make Sugar Wax
How do you make sugar wax? Start by putting the lemon juice and water in a medium-sized pan on the stove. Heat slowly. You can make sugar wax without lemon, but its recommend to include it if possible. Fresh lemon juice is great because it helps fight the bacteria that could cause breakouts, deeply nourishing the skin with vitamin C. It also acts as a natural exfoliator by removing dead skin cells that can clog your pores.
Now, add the honey and the sugar and stir. Put heat up to high. Using raw local honey helps prevent breakouts caused by bacteria. Raw honey can also help quicken healing time, should a rash occur. The sugar helps the skin obtain a supple and soft touch while moisturizing, and it also acts as a gentle exfoliant to the skin.
Once the mixture bubbles, reduce the heat to medium and continually stir for another 5 minutes at least. When the mixture is smooth and golden in color, it should be done.
Be sure not to overcook it as it may cause it to harden, making it difficult to handle. Additionally, if it is too thin, it may be too hot. You ideally want it to reach about 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
The wax should have a tacky consistency and warm honey color. Once heated and well-blended, remove from heat. Test a spoonful of the mixture by placing it in the fridge. Let it cool and then check its consistency. If thick and tacky, then consider job well done! If not, put the pot back on the stove for a few more minutes at medium heat, again stirring the whole time.
How Do You Make Sure Hard Wax Is The Correct Temperature
Most at-home wax treatments have clear instructions on how long to heat the product. That said: “It should be the consistency of cold honey,” says Nandi Wagner, lead esthetician at Bliss Spa in SoHo, who advises doing a test patch on your inner wrist to make sure it’s not too hot or too runny. Keep in mind that you’ll likely need to re-heat after 10 to 12 minutes of waxing.

Four: Choose The Right Kind Of Wax
If you type the word ‘wax’ into any beauty retailer right now, you’ll be met with a hundred different kinds of at-home waxing kits. While everyone’s hair removal needs are different, there is one brand that manages to cater for all: Sugar Coated.
Sugar Coateds Bikini Hair Removal Kit is all-natural, vegan-friendly and made primarily from sugar syrup and water. Free from any citric acid, resins or additives, its also gentler on your skin than regular waxes. Boosting its sustainable status is the inclusion of reusable, biodegradable strips, making this more of a long-term investment than single-use kits. Despite the brand name, it doesnt work like sugaring but instead removes hair like any other wax. Oh, and as for where the pain is concerned – it’s pretty painless compared to other waxing kits or even professional treatments. Formulated with Calendula, it helps to soothe and calm your skin, resulting in a pain-free wax.
Why Sugaring Instead Of Waxing
Wax is an adhesive, so it actually adheres to your skin. As a result, when you remove the wax from your skin, you will experience a lot of pain. Unlike waxing, sugaring doesnt adhere to live skin cells. When it is removed, it only gently exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving behind silky smooth skin. So the hair removal process is much less painful than waxing. Sugar paste hair removal also removes hair in the natural direction of growth, revealing skin thats beautiful and silky instead of irritated or inflamed.

What Is Sugar Wax
“Sugar wax is an all-natural waxing solution that has been used for many years,” says Gallo. “The benefits of sugar wax are the exfoliating and hydrating results, which are not typically found after waxing or shaving.” While shaving can cause ingrown hairs in coarser hair types and hair grows back quickly, sugaring pulls from the root, leading to longer-lasting, more permanent hair reduction. According to Gallo, the results can last up to 28 days and can be done with ingredients you likely already have in your home.

Is Waxing Or Sugaring Better
Both make effective ways of removing unwanted body and facial hair, but there are a few differences to keep in mind:
- Sugaring uses fewer potentially irritating ingredients.“Based on the ingredients alone, sugaring is a better option since additives have a higher chance of causing skin irritation,” says Dr. Green. Waxing uses beeswax, resin, oils and other additives that might irritate sensitive skin.
- Sugaring has a lower risk of breaking hair follicles on removal. Sugaring is applied against the hair growth and removed with the hair growth while waxing applies wax in the direction of hair growth and then removed against hair growth. As a result, waxing may cause hair follicles to break in half, which may cause ingrown hairs and additional irritation, according to Dr. Green.
- In-salon sugaring is pricier than waxing. In terms of affordability, waxing tends to be slightly more inexpensive when compared to sugaring.
- Sugaring might take longer. Waxing can be a faster process than sugaring when used for larger surface areas like the legs or back.

How To Prep The Skin
Now that you know how to make sugar wax, lets talk about prepping your skin.
You want your hair to be about a 1/4- to 1/2-inch long. For the best results, while the sugar wax mixture is cooling, wash the area you want to wax. Even better, exfoliate using a sugar scrub. Then dry the skin very well. Also make sure the skin is free of lotion or makeup.
You may want to do a patch test first to make sure it is okay for your skin. If you notice any unusual sensitivity, stop.
However, since these ingredients are pure, it should be a treatment your skin will love.
Which Type Of At
Be sure to look for a product that specifically says Brazilian on the packaging, as not all formulas are suitable for this sensitive area, explains Natalie Ismiel, brand ambassador for the hair-removal brand Nads. For a first timer, it might be easiest to use a hard wax, as strip waxes are a little bit more difficult to do on your own and take practice.
Moreover, this type of wax puts all of the power in your handsliterally. “Try using hard wax or the sugaring method, as you will be able to have more control of the wax and where you are placing it,” explains Jessica Houston, vice president of operations and lead esthetician at Beautybeez in Los Angeles.
