How To Store Sugar Scrub

There are a few different methods for storing your sugar scrub, but one of the best ways is to store it in an air-tight container.

This will help keep out any dust that could otherwise settle on top and prevent you from using all the products.

A plastic container with a lid or silicone molds works well here.

You can also use these containers for gifts: fill them up with sugar scrub, add some ribbon on top as decoration, and voila.

Its ready to go into someones stocking this holiday season.

If you want something that looks less like a DIY project though fantastic if youre gifting it then try jars or lip balm tins .

These often come in a variety of colors, are stackable, and dont look too homemade.

You can store either it at room temp or in the fridge.

It may melt when it settles to room temperature, so placing it on a cake-stand is one way to avoid that.

If you want your scrub to last for longer, store it in the fridge.

The cold temperature will slow down any bacteria growth and stop them from harming your sugar scrub.

It may be a good idea to label whats inside with some stickers or labels so you can tell which is which.

What Sugar Is Best For Your Face

White sugar is the best for use on your face. The smaller particles make sugar easier on the delicate skin on your face. When you use a sugar scrub on your face you still want to be very gentle.

Simply rub with your hands in small gentle circles without applying much pressure and let the sugar do its job. You dont need to let it dissolve first either. Just rub it on, and off, and youre done! How nice is that!

SAFETY NOTE: If you plan to use it on your face, people with sensitive skin may want to leave the essentials oils out of the scrub recipe. Theres a chance they can be irritating.

When comparing sugar scrubs versus salt scrubs, you will find additional benefits to using a sugar scrub due to the sugar granules being a lot smaller than salt granules and dissolving faster, too.

This means that for sensitive skin, sugar is a much better choice than salt because you dont want to cause abrasions to your skin by being too harsh with it. Since the particles are smaller in sugar its the best choice for delicate skin when compared to salt that has larger particles and dissolves slower.

Is It Ok To Use Sugar Scrubs On Your Face

Tried my the Peppermint Sugar Scrub....what do you think ...

Like we mentioned above, sugar scrubs work best when you use them as a body exfoliator. Some people tend to use sugar scrubs on their face. However, since they are not medical grade, I do not recommend them for facial use. Sugar granules can be large like on par with sand and this is very exfoliative, especially to someone with sensitive skin, says Dr. Linkner.

In other words, if you use a sugar scrub on your face then theres a solid chance itll clap back with angry, red, damaged skin if it has not been specifically formulated for the face. The skin on your body is much thicker and more durable, and therefore benefits from a heartier scrub. Bottom line: save the sugar scrub for your body and use products intended for your face to gently exfoliate your way to pretty, bright skin. For example, we discovered the LOreal Smooth Sugars scrubs, and when used very gently, they gently buff the skin without causing damage, read our full review here. However, if you have very sensitive skin, its better to avoid altogether, as advised above.

    Face Wash Vs Face Scrub

The primary difference between a face wash and a face scrub is the texture. A face wash has a creamy smooth texture, whereas a face scrub has grits in it. The purpose of using these two are also different. A face wash just cleans the dirt, dust and pathogens from your skins surface. However, a scrub cleans the skin pores as well. It removes the dead skin cells by exfoliating your skin.

Myths & Facts About Face Scrubs

    Myths

    Facts

    Scrubbing damages your skin.

Scrubbing does not mean damaging your skin. Only if the scrub contains large and sharp grinding particles, it can cause tears in your skin. Applying extreme pressure while massaging the scrub can be harmful too.

    Scrubs can erase acne scars

Scrub alone cannot remove your acne scar. Specifically designed acne-lightening creams are available for that purpose. Face scrubs can however help the scar to fade a little bit.

    Scrubs can cure pimples.

The face scrub cannot treat your pimples. Rather if you scrub your face when you have pimples, it may irritate your skin and cause a burning sensation. Face scrub can however prevent pimples by removing the dead skin cells.

Tingling sensation during scrubbing is normal.

If your face scrub contains peppermint or menthol kind of ingredients, then a cooling sensation is normal. If not then the tingling simply means that the ingredients do not suit your skin.

Everything from hormones to diet can wreak havoc on your skin. And once skin issues crop up, they can be made worse by exposure to the environment of harsh elements.

Dry skin is more sensitive than hydrated skin, so until you slough away dead skin cells and replenish moisture, you may be plagued by pimples, redness, and rashes.

Ways Sugar Is Good For Your Skin

The holiday season can be a blessing and a curse. Seasonal snacks like candy corn are a treat, but that bottomless bowl can do a number on your teeth and tummy. Sugar may get a bad rap in sweets, but it’s an excellent ingredient in skincare. Here are three beauty benefits this sweet stuff has to offer:

First, sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So when you apply products with sugar or sugar derivatives, they’ll actually help hydrate your skin and keep moisture within.

Secondly, sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that penetrates the skin and breaks down the “glue” that bonds skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin. Glycolic acid is typically used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Because it can be irritating to certain skin types, over-the-counter products typically contain less than a 10 percent concentration of glycolic acid in their formulas. Spas and dermatologists may offer more advanced glycolic treatments with concentrations above 10 percent, but those should be supervised by a professional. Because glycolic acid — and all AHAs — exfoliate the top layer of skin, it’s important to always follow with a sunscreen if going out during daylight hours to avoid damaging newly tender skin.

For the face, mix sugar, honey, and a few drops of lemon juice to hydrate, clarify, and reveal softer skin.

    Sugar Face Scrub Faqs

Is there an alternative to bentonite clay I can use?

Anycosmetic clay will work. Or you can leave it out entirely.

My sugar scrub came out dry and crumbly. What gives?

Just add more oil to loosen things up. When youre ready to use your sugar scrub, place a small scoopful in the palm of your hand, and add a bit of water to create a more spreadable consistency. Just make sure not to get any water in the leftover scrub, or it will spoil within a matter of days.

    Are DIY face scrubs safe?

Yes, definitely! Just make sure to stick with gentle exfoliants that are super-fine in texture, such as caster sugar and bentonite clay. And dont scrub too hard, or you might create micro-tears in the skin, which can make any inflamed areas worse.

I have pretty sensitive skin what can I use in place of sugar?

I recommend using colloidal oats in place of sugar. Not only will they actually soothe the skin, but colloidal oats dont have any sharp edges that might cause further irritation. You can make your own by placing 1/4 cup ofold-fashioned oats in a coffee grinder and grinding until you get a super-fine powder. Use your oatmeal scrub like you would a traditional sugar scrub.
