Is White Claw Actually A Healthier Choice Than A Mixed Drink Or Just Plain Beer

How Much Sugar Is REALLY In Coke & Your Drink

Whether or not a certain alcoholic drink is healthy is a layered question. While they may be lower in calories and carbs compared with some mixed drinks and beers, says Syn, its important to make sure that consumption is moderate, as consuming large quantities of alcohol is not a healthy choice regardless of the source of the alcohol.

Also consider that hard seltzer is empty calories that dont do anything for your health. There are no real nutritional benefits from consumption of hard seltzer, as they are primarily just empty calories, says Syn. A serving of these drinks fits into the category of fun foods. Thats totally fine, but its important to keep empty calories to a minimum. They provide energy, but no other nutrition like vitamins and minerals, she says.

Minimally Processed Or Natural Sugars Are Better For You

Its true that minimally processed sweeteners, like honey or maple syrup, contain more nutrients than highly processed ones, like white sugar. But the amounts of these nutrients are teeny tiny, so they probably wont have a measurable impact on your health. To your body, all sources of sugar are the same.

Whats more, these natural sweeteners dont get any kind of special treatment in your body. The digestive tract breaks down all sources of sugar into simple sugars called monosaccharides.

Your body has no idea if it came from table sugar, honey, or agave nectar. It simply sees monosaccharide sugar molecules, explains Amy Goodson, MS, RD. And all of these sugars deliver 4 calories per gram, so they all have the same impact on your weight.

Truly Hard Seltzer Has More Alcohol Than Some Beers

It’s amazing to think that such a small can might actually pack a bit of a punch when it comes to alcohol content, but Truly Hard Seltzer surely can. Truly Hard Seltzer has an ABV, or alcohol by volume, of five percent per can, essentially meaning that five percent of the liquid in the can is alcohol.

Hard seltzer options are often more popular amongst consumers because they have fewer carbohydrates than some light beers while still hovering around the same calorie counts. But, even though the nutritional label may read similarly in the areas of calories, carbs, and sugars, Truly Hard Seltzer tends to come packed with a higher ABV than its popular light-beer counterparts.

A can of Bud Light or Coors Light has an ABV of 4.2 percent, whereas a Corona Extra has an ABV of 4.6 percent. And while these options are definitely lighter beers than an India Pale Ale or a heavy stout, they still have less alcohol than a simple hard seltzer.

White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino Blended Beverage

The White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino is in Starbucks on words White chocolate Frappuccino® Roast coffee, milk, and ice get together for what might be the best thing that happens to you all day. Oh, and theres whipped cream on top.

I couldnt describe it better myself, and as a white chocolate lover, this sounds immense, not just immensely sweet!

Only 4 pumps of sauce in this one but its almost as sweet as our top choice with its 6 pumps of caramel syrup.

This isnt a huge surprise since white chocolate is so much sweeter than milk chocolate but it is mad if you think about it for too long. Which if youre about to drink one of these I dont recommend you do

Truly Hard Seltzer Has Less Sugar Than White Claw

How much sugar are you really drinking? : coolguides

Part of the appeal of hard seltzer options is all because they aren’t all syrupy and sweet, as opposed to their malt beverage counterparts like Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Smirnoff Ice that came before them. They’re light, crisp, and refreshing, and you won’t pack on the calories from sipping a few on a hot summer day.

A typical 12-ounce can of White Claw contains 100 calories with two grams of carbohydrates and two grams of sugar in the can. Compared to a 12-ounce bottle of Smirnoff Ice, with 245 calories and 32 grams of sugar, White Claw is a fantastic swap for those looking for alcoholic beverage options that don’t pack a sugary calorie punch.

But Truly Hard Seltzer comes in even lower than White Claw, with 100 calories and only one gram of sugar in a comparable 12-ounce can. And while that’s not an astronomical difference, it certainly can add up if you’re consuming quite a few cans in a day.

Whats The Healthiest Way To Enjoy A White Claw Surge

At 220 calories per 16-ounce can, a White Claw Surge has significantly more calories more than the brands original hard seltzer. The bigger serving size accounts for somebut not allof it, says Jessica Cording, M.S., R.D., dietitian and author of The Little Book of Game-Changers. It has a higher alcohol percentage, and that can contribute to more calories, she says. Theres less seltzer and more booze.

The extra calories also dont seem to be linked to added sugar, points out Karen Ansel, M.S., R.D.N., author of Healing Superfoods for Anti-Aging. White Claw Surge gets almost all of its calories from alcohol, which contains seven calories per gramnearly twice the calories of carbs , she says. Combine that with its large serving size and youre basically getting double the alcohol youd get from a standard drink or glass of wine.

So instead of being like a light beer nutrition-wise, which the original White Claw is, this is more like two glasses of wine, explains Gina Keatley, a certified dietitian nutritionist practicing in New York City.

White Claw Surge never claimed to be healthy, but Keatley is concerned that people may not realize how many calories a can packs, due to the original drinks healthier halo.

Can You Make A Starbucks Sweeter

You can indeed, you can ask for any syrup you want to be added to your drink, so have one on the list that you want sweeter? No problem! Just ask for some caramel or vanilla syrup to be added, the easiest way to get the extra sweetness into your cup.

Caramel and Vanilla are good middle-of-the-road flavors that arent going to seem too foreign even if you add it to another drink but ask your barista and theyll keep you right.

You can also add in plain sugar if youre looking to make it sweeter, but be mindful when you do. Having a super sweet Starbucks every day probably isnt the best idea. Moderation is key after all but Im not here to lecture, Im here to measure sugar apparently.

Why Spiked Seltzer Is A Healthier Alcohol Choice

Really

The reason spiked seltzers are healthier than other drinks is because they are typically only made out of carbonated water, alcohol from fermented cane sugar, and fruit flavorings, explains Paige Valentik, RD, registered dietitian for Sodexo. This makes the beverage lower in calories and extra ingredients.

Yep, spiked seltzers are typically lower in calories when compared to heavy beers, wine, or mixed drinks made with high-calorie mixers, says Valentik.

The calorie content of spiked seltzers are comparable to light beer as well as liquor mixed with no-calorie beverages, she shares.

There is a caveat, though: Spiked seltzers are only healthier if you practice moderation, of course.

Its easy to overdrink on spiked seltzers versus other alcoholic beverages, youre no longer consuming less calories, says Valentik.

Some modern fruits, most notably apples, have been bred to contain much higher levels of natural sugar than were previously present. If youre on a Candida diet you should be avoiding most fruits. Even if youre not, you should try to eat fruit in moderation and stick to those fruits with a lower Glycemic Load.

How To Have Less Sugar In A Sweet Starbucks

Whats crazy is that Starbucks has already worked hard to reduce the amounts of sugar in their drinks, the strawberry sauce has less sugar now, and apparently, in 2016, 63% of all of their beverages sold contained zero added sugar.

But even with that, the list above shows the sugar content is still massive in these drinks, even the strawberry flavor with its reduced sugar content.

So what can you do? Well switching to a regular coffee would be the best bet but Im guessing you dont want to do that, so ask for sugar free syrup when you order, you can get sugar free vanilla syrup, so go for one of those flavors and ask for it to be sugar free. Every little helps and this will go a long way to reducing the overall amount of sugar rush youre getting.

Your other option is to go for a smaller size, if you want to enjoy the same drink but have less sugar then get yourself a tall or a short size, same great flavor but less overall sugar consumption. Win-win!
