Our Superstar Keto Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients
Traditional teriyaki sauce is made sweet and thick thanks to the combination of soy sauce and sugar, which, when reduced, create that signature consistency.
However, this recipe obviously doesnt use sugar so we had to do a little improvising. The ingredients we swapped in can actually be used in many keto sauces, and we definitely encourage you to experiment and see what you can create!
Ever wondered how to thicken a sauce without flour? Xantham gum. Just a pinch of this provides instant thickening power, without the usual carbs from flour. Thats exactly what you want for something like this thick, sticky Keto Teriyaki Sauce.
Weve even used xantham gum to thicken soup in the past! Check out this Cheddar Bacon Soup recipe.
You definitely dont need sugar to add a little sweetness to your sauce. There are so many keto sweeteners you can find these days, from granulated blends to natural monk fruit.
Which sweetener to use? For this Keto Teriyaki Sauce recipe, we recommend a granulated sweetener that can be substituted at a 1:1 ratio for sugar. This will help to create a thick sauce.
We recommend Lakanto for our low-carb teriyaki sauce, which uses erythritol or an erythritol/monk fruit blend. Allulose could also be used, but it may harden when cooled.
Yes, you can have soy sauce on a keto diet! Soybeans happen to be quite low-carb, and we use soy sauces in many of our keto recipes .

Why You Should Chew Xylitol Gum
Studies show that xylitol starves out the bacteria in your mouth that causes cavities and tooth decay, which makes it a perfect ingredient to add to your after-meal gum .
Some research even shows that chewing gum that contains xylitol after eating can reduce tooth decay and cavities significantly .
Additionally, xylitol has been shown to reduce the occurrence of ear infections in children. It also helps fight yeast infections caused by Candida albicans.
One study found that xylitol starves out the harmful bacteria in your ears much like it does the bacteria in your mouth that causes cavities .
Children with recurrent ear infections who chewed xylitol-sweetened gum daily reduced their rate of infection by 40 percent .
Similarly, xylitol reduces harmful yeast such as Candida albicans from sticking to a surface and causing infection .
Other potential health benefits of xylitol include an increased production of collagen, which can lead to reduced skin aging, and protection against osteoporosis, according to animal studies .
Aside from being highly toxic to dogs, xylitol appears to be safe for humans. Of course, you dont want to eat a ton of it as you might experience digestive upset. Either way, its a million times better than chewing on a stick of cancer.
In addition to finding a gum that is sweetened with xylitol, youll want to make sure your keto gum does not contain sugar or aspartame of any kind.
Dirt Keto Vs Strict Keto Vs Ketovore Vs Carnivore
What is all this crazy talk about what level keto you are? Well for us we have always done more a dirty keto which is high fat, low carb with some veggies and artificial sweeteners. Which worked great. However we were having issues getting pregnant again so we went to a fertility doctor by the name of Dr. Kiltz.
He really opened our eyes to becoming more strict on what he calls keto but what is really ketovore or carnivore. Where you essentially eat Bacon, Eggs, Butter, & Beef or B.E.B.B.I. with Homemade Ice Cream which makes it Ketovore.
There are many levels of Keto the most strict is actually called the Lions Diet where you only eat ruminant meats like venison, beef and no meats like pork.
We mostly eat Ketovore even though I try to stick to carnivore which is mainly Beef, Eggs, Bacon and pork belly. So after going Ketovore we finally got pregnant with our second child after just 40 days after trying for over 4 1/2 years. Was it coincidence, maybe

Erythritol In The Keto Diet
In my opinion, one of the main reasons the Keto diet is so successful is its promotion of the sugar alcohol, erythritol. Keto diet icons didnt invent erythritol, its actually been around for over 100 years used mostly to sweeten protein drinks and fitness supplements. Erythritol is 70% as sweet as table sugar with virtually no caloric intake, and heres the thing to most people it TASTES LIKE SUGAR.
This is coming from a family that despises Truvia, Splenda, Stevia you name it, we hate it!
Before the Keto diet became wildly popular, erythritol was not widely available to home consumers. ..it wasnt stocked in grocery and nutrition stores, it was simply an additive for sugar-free gum and diet food makers. Keto cookbook authors and writers brought this ingredient to the forefront and consumers insisted erythritol be stocked in stores. Now its virtually everywhere and its delicious.
But it does have one problem.erythritol will not dissolve into water in equal parts, without immediate crystallization upon cooling.
Its chemistry and theres no getting around it.
So there is our challenge folks How can we simulate the mouthfeel of simple syrup, using the palatable sweetness of erythritol, while staying within the boundaries of the Keto diet?
to get the Erythritol that my family and I swear by!
Are Gums With Xylitol Okay
Ever wondered the type of sugar in your fruits? Well, if it was the normal table sugar, I guess an apple a day would make the doctor to stay. There are natural sweeteners in fruits, and one of such is xylitol. Xylitol naturallyoccurs in birch wood, plum, strawberry, cauliflower, and so on .
- Xylitol has drastically lower calorie content compared to table sugar and is a healthier substitute. Over time, xylitol has been used as a medication and has been adapted to mire uses Im modern times. Though less used than Sorbitol, xylitol is commonplace in sugar-free products and is quite suitable for use by diabetics , as it metabolizes independently of insulin.
- Xylitol is one of the biggest constituents of sugar-free gum and candies, just behind aspartame. It is recognized as safe for consumption , used in gums to treat tooth cavities , to prevent earaches among others.
So if you desire to chew gum during your ketogenic diet, you could munch on some Xylitol based gum as it does not kick you if your diet. One of thumb that can be applied is that anything that is safe for a diabetic is acceptable during your diet as it does not add little calories, insignificant when compared to sugar despite the similarity Im their tastes .
You should take caution when consuming xylitol though, excess consumption makes it act as a laxative, and the EU Scientific Committee on Food stated ingesting 50g a day of xylitol can cause diarrheaand excessive consumption may induce laxative effects

Sugar Alcohol Isn’t Carb
Unlike artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sugar alcohols aren’t calorie-free. A type of carbohydrate, sugar alcohols taste sweet like sugar, but the body only absorbs about half, reducing the number of calories and carbs your body gets. This also lowers the effect it has on blood sugar. In terms of numbers, your body absorbs only 1 of the 2 grams of carbs from your stick of sugar-free gum.
Be careful how much you chew, however. Too much sugar alcohol has a laxative effect that may cause abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Is Extra Gum Keto
Extra gum is not suitable for those following the keto diet.
For the most part, sugarless gum is considered keto friendly. However, some brands of sugarless gum contain artificial sweeteners that arent suitable for those on the keto diet.
According to the nutritional label on the pack of extra gum, a piece of extra gum has 5 calories, 1g of carbohydrates, 1g of sugar alcohols, and no fat.
However, if you are following a keto diet that consists of less than 50g of net carbs per day, then you should consider the quantity of sugar alcohols in your diet.
The first step to calculate net carbs is to subtract dietary fiber from total carbohydrates.
So if you eat a piece of extra gum which has 1g of carbs and 0g of dietary fiber, then your net carbs intake will be 1g.
But that is not the final answer yet.
You must also subtract the grams of sugar alcohols in each gram as well. Since there are 4 calories per gram in sugar alcohols, so each gram of sugar alcohols need to be divided by 2 and then subtracted from total net carbs. *4 = 2).
Therefore, if you eat one piece of Extra Gum which has 1g of sugar alcohols * 4 = 2), then the final answer for your net carb intake is 0.

Because of its antibacterial properties, and because it doesnt convert to mouth acids as sugar does, its often used in chewing gum, oral care, and mints.

How Much Can You Chew
Whether you count the carbs in your sugar-free or keto gum may depend on the low-carb diet you’re following. And while it may not be a big deal if you chew one piece a day, if you have a pack-a-day habit, you may need to start counting. For example, if you’re limited to 20 grams a day on your low-carb or keto diet and you chew 15 pieces of gum with 2 grams of carbs each, throughout the course of the day that’s 30 grams of total carbs and 30 grams of sugar alcohol, or 15 grams of total carbs absorbed. The Problem With Sugar
If youre one of those people who only chew sugar-free gum once in a blue moon , then you probably have nothing to worry about.
Most health experts will tell you that the regular kind of gum or the gum that contains sugar is what you really need to look out for because it causes cavities and it affects your blood sugar levels. But even if youre only an occasional chewer, why not invest in a chewing gum that doesnt contain harmful ingredients?
For example, heres a breakdown of the ingredients in a typical sugar-free gum: natural and artificial flavors, glycerol, mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, gum base, acesulfame K, aspartame, BHT, sucralose and lecithin.
Sounds pretty innocent, right? Afterall, theres no high fructose corn syrup or apparent refined sugar. But if you look closely at these ingredients, some of them should be avoided for overall health purpose such as aspartame, BHT, and sucralose .
Additionally, many sugar alcohols that are used in sugar-free gum can have a laxative effect or cause gastrointestinal upset. Chewing a lot of it can interfere with nutrient absorption, which might make you feel tired all the time.
Aspartame is probably the most undesirable ingredient, and probably the most dangerous one, and thats why we made a list of gums that dont contain this ingredient .
